[ptxdist] Patchlevel version numbers revisited

Greetings!

I am currently annoyed at the lack of package patchlevel versions
while preparing a ptxdist-based distribution with plenty of local
rule modifications and additions.

During evaluation of my options, I stumbled over this old gem in the
list archives (

and wondered if there have been any changes added to ptxdist in the
meantime, or if I need to roll my own?
