fine this python version should work.
Can you please try to install the python dev packages?
"sudo aptitude install python-dev"? (or something like that, don't know
the right package name maybe python2.7-dev or something else) [0] says
"python-dev".
If your problem still exists, could you send please the output of:
'python2.7 -c "import distutils.sysconfig; print distutils.sysconfig.get_makefile_filename()"'
Thanks

mhh, maybe I should really install ubuntu in a vm and dig into this
issue...
It could be that python prints out this to stderr... then the
configure check should fail, but I don't believe that. Try:
test -e `python2.7 -c "import distutils.sysconfig; print distutils.sysconfig.get_makefile_filename()" 2> /dev/null` && echo "If you have a hammer everything looks like a nail"
to be sure...

Where exactly did you download the ptxdist sources? Just to be sure I

With ubuntu 13.04 I don't get any issues. Also sed version is 4.2.1
I suppose you don't have 13.04...
what reports "lsb_release -a"?
Also ubuntu packges confirms that 13.04 have sed 4.2.1 see [0].
It's not funny to wasting my time... :-(

It's okay, I only getting sad when I see something like this then.
I also do a little bit multitasking while installing all things, so it
doesn't matter.

yep, I already said that somebody had a similar issue. I thought there
was some python2 vs python3 problem. I don't know what a python version
there was used because she doesn't replied to this mail.
I prepared some patches to check for python2 which we should really do,
but it seems this wasn't the reason because you have a python version
which should work.

Got it now...
next time I need to take a closer look on other patches... was very
stupid and I didn't realize that the behaviour to check on python-dev
was different in older ptxdist releases...
Nevertheless it's much easier to detect the issue when I have the exact
sambe behaviour which I have now...
Try a:
git cherry-pick c498184 2a89985
instead of:
git cherry-pick 2a89985
