Maybe Michael could also have a look on the old patches for bash 3.2. I don't know, if they are still needed or not. I already collected some similar patches for systemd while trying to get a full blown setup for some recent Atom platform with EFI firmware. It works pretty nice, as it boots within 7 seconds with a rootfs on NFS and the usual services running in the background.
