Some more details about the issues with make 3.82 and 4.0 and how it was fixed can be found here: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit/packages.git/tree/trunk?h=packages/make and here http://crosstool-ng.org/hg/crosstool-ng/rev/529a71ea091e I just copy the patch description from Daniel Schultze: Make 3.82 broke makefiles that used implicit and explicit rules on the same line.
