elf-h-compat was added when I ported ptxdist to macOS. It was mainly a proof of concept that worked for some packages and some images, but I didn’t maintain it for years. 

I think we can remove it - at least no objection from my side.

But I will try to fix the certificate stuff as soon as possible - can’t promise for today.
