I tried to do this at some point. Unfortunately it's not that easy. Packages with _CONF_TOOL == cmake build out-of-tree by default. Handling that correctly while making sure all variables are resolved in the correct order is not that simple. Maybe I'll get around to implement that in the future, but no promises.
