mhh, maybe I should really install ubuntu in a vm and dig into this
issue...

It could be that python prints out this to stderr... then the
configure check should fail, but I don't believe that. Try:

test -e `python2.7 -c "import distutils.sysconfig; print distutils.sysconfig.get_makefile_filename()" 2> /dev/null` && echo "If you have a hammer everything looks like a nail"

to be sure...


BTW:
your mail client trim the subject sometimes... looks funny.
